Namekagon Outpost on 53 in Trego, WI has a carved wooden coffee table of a black bear on it's back with all four paws in the air. It's paws hold a thick round pane of glass. A rustic item done with chainsaw and chisel. The outpost has many rooms filled with similar creations. An Interesting place to browse, indeed! :-)
We picked up a free souvenir at our second stop under the Blatnik Bridge, a hunk of driftwood, short and square but rounded by the waves. Hope to carve an inspiring poem into it and place it in our rock garden. Got the idea from a house on Park Point that has a dozen or more hunks of driftwood in the front yard with sea poems carved in. If you want to check it out, look on the lake side of the road, not far from the lift bridge.
Just about got to Canal Park when I saw the Rixta Oldendorff and the two tugs Kansas and Vermont heading for where we had just come from at the Garfield Ave. fishing pier. We turned around and made it back in time to get a good look at the tugs pulling the Rixta in to dock. Deja Vu! Wasn't this the exact same scene we saw last fall when the Venture North TV crew was shooting an episode? But no, THAT was the HELENA Oldendorff, the apparent sister ship to the Rixta. We've had excellent views of both ships being guided into port. I've recently learned that both ships carry a small number of passengers.
The Canal Park Marine Museum's ship schedule showed only one ship arriving at 18:30, so we went to the OmniMax to see The Living Sea." GREAT film! Everyone would like to see it again. The underwater sea life shots took you right into the middle of all the "action." When a Coast Guard rescue vessel crashed through huge waves, you could FEEL the immense power of the water.
